Save the endangered Dongbei Tiger!
The Dongbei tiger, also known as the Amur , Manchurian , Korean , Altaic or North China tiger, is a rare subspecies of tiger, mainly living in northeast China, Korea Peninsula, northeaste Mongolia and southeasten Russia (Wikipedia-Siberian Tiger,2007).

Nowadays, due to the fast development of industry economy, more and more trees have been cut down to support the flourishing industry. Especially in the northeastern part of China, where most of Dongbei tigers live on, a great deforestation has been made. The deforestation has seriously destroyed the living environment of Dongbei tigers and led to a drastic decrease in Dongbei tigers’ population. In addition to deforestation, poaching is also a threat for Dongbei tigers. According to my research, by 1990, due to the severe poaching, the estimated number of Dongbei tigers has rapidly dropped down to fewer than fifty in the Russia Far East and only three hundreds in neighbor of China (Landmark Survey, 2007). Thus, Dongbei tigers are really in danger of extinction.

Therefore, I have proposed two solutions, building some protected areas and limiting illegal poaching, to help to prevent Dongbei tigers from extinction.

Firstly, in my opinion, it is quite necessary for governments to build up some protected areas to provide a habitat for Dongbei tigers. The possibility of survival for Dongbei tigers of being released into the wild is much larger than breeding in captivity, because there may not be enough food in the wild and some tigers are lack of the skills of hunting (Siberian Tiger Project, 2008). Therefore, building a protected area will be quite necessary to protect the tigers. Through providing them enough food and protecting them from been hunted, we can build a proper habitat for the tigers to live in and maintain the population of tigers. However, to build the protected areas may not be an easy thing, because the cost of building such a protected area is prohibitive and we need to persuade the government provide the financial support.

Secondly, the government should focus on limiting the human’s poaching and educating citizens of the consciousness of protecting Dongbei tigers. In most areas, the poaching of Dongbei tigers is still not abandoned because of the economic benefit. For this case, on one hand, the government should pay more attention on setting up relative laws and regulations to stop poaching and logging. On the other hand, the citizens should be educated to develop a good consciousness to support and make some contributions to the projects which aimed at saving the tigers.

To sum up, saving Dongbei tiger is definitely a hard work. Although, till now, some work have already been done, yet it is still not enough. We still have a long way to go. Otherwise, we will miss Dongbei tiger on earth forever.
